Rusty's Latest Journal - Number 13 April 2011
My "Celebrity Moment"
My journal has been a bit delayed for very legitimate reasons I feel. In early March, you will recall, I had to fit in a quick trip to Filey, followed by the ignominy of Doggy Day Care
( 5 day cares to be exact) and then the build up to the big event......The Book Launch.
The female human put a lot of effort in to the theme, a celebrity evening, me being the celebrity in case you had not realised. With Champagne and nibbles, two burly bouncers, balloons, cocktail waitresses and a red carpet we made the local press and sold numerous copies of my book "A Travellers Tail".
I was on my best behaviour of course, except perhaps for the moment when one of my bodyguards let his slice of pizza out of eyesight momentarily and I took the opportunity to relieve him of it just before he popped it in his mouth!!! No hard feelings on his part obviously as he has agreed to attend my next "guest appearance" (venue and dates to be revealed later in the year) and keep the throngs of adoring fans in check.
Now please don't get the impression that I have let the fame go to my head.......I am still the same shy and retiring Rusty as before it is just that when I go out and about in Wetherby and Filey I am getting used to being recognised more frequently having had my photo in the local paper along with Joseph the resident Wetherby Newshound. At Filey my favourite cafe on the cobbles have been selling copies of my book so when I took the humans there for coffee on our last visit holiday makers commented. "There's that dog from the book". I am beginning to understand what the Celebs mean when they talk about being papped!!!!
Anyway I have no plans to scribe another book at this stage so the journals should be back on track. Talking of tracks we have been having some really good walks on the old railway line in Wetherby recently, accompanied by my good friend Holly the Chocolate Labrador. My male human picks her up from her house three times a week as Holly’s' female human has to go out to work and as you will know I am sometimes invited in for a biscuit when we get back. Now that Stinky Pete is no longer in residence I just have to keep an eye out for the cats, or should that be the cats just have to keep an eye out for me!!
I shall also be keeping an eye out for Archie the Lakeland terrier. He is a cute little thing, a curly black and tan coat and what looks like a sewn on nose. The female human says he reminds her of one of those dogs on wheels that people have before they are grown up (ie when they are children) I must say I have never seen a dog on wheels!! except perhaps the one that sped past me in a bicycle basket last week. Anyway a dog on wheels would have difficulty "cocking" a leg to spend a penny, something that Archie had no trouble with when we met a couple of weeks ago. Just a slight problem with where he aimed when he lifted his limb, it must have been the colour of the female humans trousers that reminded him of a tree"!!!. No harm done they wash.
Talking of wheels I am hoping that my female humans wheels, well her 4x4 to be precise, is back sometime soon. She is driving around in what looks like a roller skate at the moment and no dogs are allowed in it. Something to do with a Massey Ferguson and a muck spreader I believe. She certainly won't be able to tow her horse trailer with the Micro-mini and I know that she is supposed to be taking her horse Holly on holiday in the next couple of weeks so I hope the garage get it fixed sharpish.
I of course will not be invited on that particular break. As you know I am a bit wary of horses. The beach donkeys at Filey don't concern me but they don't go any faster than a walk and are not much bigger than a large dog, say a St Bernard or a Leon Berger. The female human says she loves watching them at work, the donkeys that is, as when only a couple of children want a ride the remaining donkeys still walk the route with the ones that are being ridden. If it were me I would take the chance for a quick nap or perhaps a quick exploration of the picnics of the surrounding holiday makers.
I shan't be back in Filey though for almost a month, something to do with the female human having to work......
Now where did I put that sandwich!!!!!
