We are going on holiday I just know it, talk of what time to set off, the route to take and when to meet the “friends” at the hotel. I am so excited. Perhaps my pal TJ is going as well, though I did think she would have mentioned it when we went running this morning.

I don’t feel very well and the female human has gone to meditate at her regular Yoga session so I will have to make do with my male human to look after me. It must be something I have eaten.

The female human is home from Yoga and I still don’t feel very well, oh quick I need to get to the garden!!!! The pre-holiday preparations are not going well as I am still not feeling too good and I know I am not going to get much sleep. Still the female human has told me she is going to “look after me” and stay on the settee tonight. I don’t like to be a nuisance……

Friday morning and I must say I was quite glad of the company last night as the garden can be a very lonely place at night, I think I visited it four times in all. Apparently we are calling at the Vets after our morning river walk, infact I just have time to tell some of my pals, Odie, Teddy and Max that I have been a bit off colour and then I am in the surgery and the very nice lady vet is taking my temperature (if you are doggy then you will know all about THAT not very pleasant procedure) I have an injection, tablets, some special food and my humans have been advised that somewhere called “kennels” will not really be suitable as I am a bit fragile and might get stressed!!!!!

Well here we all are in Bridlington. The hotel seems very nice though I did think we were having a luxury room, I wonder what went wrong there??? The friends turn out to be only human, I don’t’ want to sound ungrateful as they are very nice but for three days I am going to be the odd one out. Still I am sure there are lots of exciting doggy things planned for me!!!

Darts……….. men throwing arrows that dogs can’t hope to catch as the board it too high up.

I’m not allowed in to “The Spa” and so I have to keep one of my humans company and walk up and down the beach and on the promenade. I don’t know who planned this. It can’t have been the female human. I know she is appalling at navigation but she usually makes sure we stay together as a group and yet here we are me and one human, first the male one then the female one then the male one, a dog could get very confused. The nearest I get to any Darts players is meeting “The Badger” outside the Spa after he has been knocked out of the competition. He did seem very nice, though as a dog I would have preferred it be “Wolfie” and we could have compared howls.

The humans appear to have enjoyed themselves when they finally all return from a meal at somewhere called a “Chinese”. I opted out as my feet were fairly tired and when the female human opened the boot of the car I took the opportunity to lie down and pretend to be asleep so she left me on my own (I could not have walked ANY further) Anyway I don’t like to intrude and if I had been in the “Chinese” who knows what might have happened. Evidently they met “Wolfie” but as he was not playing darts he didn’t howl just chatted and signed autographs. I wonder how he holds a pen???

It’s Sunday and this must be the day that is devoted to me. The “friends” are going home after breakfast and so it’s going to be just me and my humans and a day on the beach. We start off with the land train from the Park to the Harbour and then along the promenade (I know it quite well from yesterday!!) and on to the beach.

Would you know it, some Bridlington dogs are quite possessive about their territory it would seem. I only ran up to say hello and a quite aggressive growl and some sharp teeth later and boy does my side hurt. In fact I am missing some fur and if I could stand still long enough my humans would see that I have had a nasty nip. But I am made of strong stuff and I don’t want it to spoil their holiday so I grit my canines and make the best of the day.

Near the Harbour we bump in to my pal Teddy who has persuaded his humans to come over for the day. I obviously warn him about the “locals” and we arrange to swap holiday tales at the river next week. Obviously mine will be a bit more in depth as he is only briefly visiting. His male human says it costs too much with four children (perhaps they could have stayed at home!!!)

We have a trip on the “Yorkshire Belle” and sail right round the coast to the Lighthouse, well actually there are two at Flamborough according to the Skipper on the ship. But the highlight for me was the lovely lady sitting opposite who fed me Cheddars and petted me all through the trip. Just as well I don’t get sea sick and I seem to over my tummy bug!!!

By tea time I am getting quite tired and after I have helped the humans finish their fish and chips I decide it is time to show them my dog bite. I think they might have over-reacted a bit; apparently we are off to the vets when we get home.

On Monday we leave the hotel, I have spoken to the very nice lady owner who says I am welcome to come back and I overhear my humans saying something about a luxury room next time, oh I can’t wait!!!

The journey home takes in a trip to my favourite beach at Filey, no grumpy Bridlington Labradors there thankfully and then sure enough I am back at the Vets. This time I see the very nice male vet who announces that it is quite a nasty bite (I have been a true hero) and an injection some more tablets and I am finally home.

I have enjoyed my trip immensely though the planning could clearly have been a bit less last-minute so I can only hope that the holiday in a few weeks time (the 5 star hotel with sea views) has a more doggy friendly itinerary……now where are those diarrhoea tablets!!!!!!!
