We are going on holiday I just know it, the boxes are out the clothes are being packed and the male humans’ car is being loaded, looking good for me this time.
I had a slight false alarm a couple of days ago when they took me to somewhere called “Doggy day care”. One minute I was in the car apparently making a detour to the river and then the next I am at a Farm (not the one I usually visit) and would you believe it there are other dogs there too. Some were staying more than a day (what were their humans thinking) and some like me have been told they are being collected when their humans finish work.
My visit apparently was just a “taster session”, I’m not sure what that means but I heard my humans telling the man at the farm that we are going to the Darts in September (I’ve seen it on the telly and it looks like quite a fun day out, bags I get to watch “Wolfie” and howl when he comes on stage…….) they picked me up in the afternoon as promised and I have no idea if I will be going back!!!!!!!!
Anyway I digress…. Dorset here we come.
Not bad. The humans have found a nice cottage with a dog friendly garden, lots of sniff spots and a pond to wade in, there are another couple of dogs in the adjoining garden to bark at so what more could a pooch want.
Well we are finally off to Poole. I have been promised this trip for AGES the female human has been telling everyone we are going to visit Rick Stein and Chalky. You’ve probably seen them on the telly, he is a chef and Chalky is the doggy side kick who does all the running about on the beach. I can’t wait to sit under the table in his restaurant and then go on the beach with Chalky.
Problem!!!!!! The female human is not renowned for her navigational skills, in fact the male human calls her his “Fat Nav” when we are in the car and get a bit lost. Well she booked this holiday and it would seem that Rick Stein lives in PADSTOW not Poole and Chalky, well the least said about that the better as the programmes on TV have been re-runs for the past ten years and Chalky must have been about 15 when they were filmed, I don’t think I need to explain further!!!!
Still we did get to Poole where all the beautiful people live. The beach is not as nice as the ones in Jersey and the boats in the Harbour are not quite as big and the houses are not as grand and the people all wear dark glasses and those boots which look like they are falling down. But I did get a dip in the sea and a lick of an ice cream so in my eyes it is a close run thing, if I am being brutally honest though I still like Filey best, you can’t beat the café with the nice owner who gives me biscuits when we visit.
The weather was great for a dog on his holidays and we visited a place called Durdle Dor where I got to swim in the bluest sea you have ever seen. There were hundreds of steps to climb up and down to the beach but I didn’t need them as the scramble up the cliff was much more exciting!!! Of course having gone up I had to go back down too…..then a spot of lunch and a play in the park with my latest toy, a ball on a piece of rope which sometimes my humans manage to get hold of and then a sort of tug of war ensues, bet you can guess who wins.
We walked miles and miles during the week and I must admit by the end of it I was pretty tired so when the humans said we were off to visit the brother with the wooden floors (the one who had a house in Stafford with new carpets!!!) en route home, I was worried that my stamina levels might be found wanting. I had a bit of a sore paw so when anyone was looking I just limped a bit more and held it up for them to see. I can’t believe I haven’t tried this before, I had four sausages, some cake and even some popcorn accompanied by lots of “do you think he is okay” and “if he is no better by Monday then we will have to go the vets” Needless to say I have made a miraculous recovery and saved the humans the cost of a veterinary visit. I’m all heart!!!
I’m surprised they took my little rouse so seriously though as when the burst football (I didn’t mean to do it!!) was on the go or when the female human was bouncing on the trampoline with the small humans, I managed to run about quite well fighting with the ball like a dervish and jumping up under the trampoline trying to bite peoples feet every time they hit the springy base (I must say there was quite a bit of weight on that trampoline!!!)
So as you can see I have had another good week away, this was called the “re-tired” week apparently. I was really tired so perhaps that was the reason, although I do know that the male human is not going back to work and has been advised by the female human that he is now in charge of domestic duties so perhaps that’s what being “retired” is all about.
The next journal of course will be all about my time at the Darts which I am looking forward to, though I am a bit perplexed as to how I am going to hold the arrows in my paws!!! still I have mastered the key board so practice makes ………………
